It was a beautiful Sunday evening at the hollywood bowl where the New Pornographers along with Tegan & Sara, opened for Death Cab For Cutie. It was most especially a treat, for DCFC played half their set with fifty members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Songs ranged from their first album (released a decade ago) to their latest. An everlasting array of fireworks launched as the musicians wrapped the last song of their set- Transatlanticism. The event was breath taking and I wish the world was there to see it. Amazing.

MOCA- Engagement Party
The Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Los Angeles is hosting summer night Engagement Parties the next couple of months. The Engagement Parties are held the first Thursdays of the month. These days are generally free museum days and after the museum from 7-10pm, the festivities begin. This year, artist collective, OJO, a local Los Angeles music group are staging various audience participatory acts. On June 4th, OJO debuted an act called "Color Chorus." Upon arrival, patrons were given shirts in either blue, yellow or red along with a plastic egg filled with beads to act as a shaker. OJO played a jumble of beats and eclectic rhythm getting the color coded people to chant designated hums and words to the choreography of strobe and colored lights. The turn out was big, even stopping tourists to join in on the performance. As the sun set, it became very dark in downtown with the exception of office lights hanging on the tall skyscrapers surrounding the space of primary color. But most dazzling was the dancing and singing that became very tribal and expressive.

All Leather shook the room with screams and loud energy that made the room vibrate so intently that it shrilled through the crowd's joints. I didn't know if people were having seizures or were so hypnotically entranced enough to dance. The catchy rhythms held me long enough to listen, but they will leave your ears pulsing long over due past their set!
The Polyamorous Affair closed the night with cool pop electro disco. Their stage presence was captivating. Sissy Sainte-Marie is the soft spoken robotic doll oddly juxtaposed to Eddie Chacon, a more springy multi-pitched frontman. Their nature is very different from one another, but the chemistry fits and the music makes you bop your head playing into their beautiful aesthetic of foreign fashion and magical landscapes. They team with with Mr. Cocoon's psychedelic VJ-ing and De Ja Franciose's outstandish DJ-ing. These guys are one to look out for.
